About the event

The National Science and Media Museum is collaborating with design company Bright White Ltd and the Digital Creativity Labs at the University of York to explore new ways of telling stories about the objects in our collection.

As part of this, we’re inviting you to help us test a new concept that will appear in the museum next year.

If you’d like to be part of this exciting experiment, all you need is a computer or laptop with a webcam, and you can take part from home.

Please follow the link here or below, and Bright White willl be in touch.

About the Test

The test will be like visiting a virtual museum exhibit, but one that uses a virtual assistant to personalise the information given to you about the object. You'll interact with the virtual display by using your voice, and then hear some great stories about the object, all automatically. You just need a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and microphone - it will be like having a Skype or FaceTime call with a museum display! In 2021 the museum will be opening a fantastic new gallery all about the science of sound. There will be lots of displays and interactives in the gallery and one of those will be about iconic microphones from our collection. Because our visitors come from a range of age groups, we're testing ways to tailor the stories we tell about the objects to different ages, so that every visitor gets the best possible experience. We can't test the ideas on the gallery right now because the previous exhibition is still there. So, we are testing online, and thanks again to you for clicking on this link and considering taking part. We will contact you as soon as we can to tell you more about the project and arrange a convenient time for you - the testing will take up to an hour. And we'll give you plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Thanks again for considering taking part - it's very important that we test ideas before they go into our galleries - it helps us make our museum the best it can be for you. museums.
